This half term we have been learning all about The Tiger Who Came To Tea and the Jungle. We invited grown ups to our very own Tiger Tea Party! We enjoyed creating masks for our party as well as preparing food and art work by jungle artist Henri Rosseau. We have explored the Amazon Rainforest as well as the country of Brazil and have found out lots of facts about famous explorers.
In English, we wrote the story of The Tiger Who Came to Tea and changed the characters and events to create an innovated version of our own! We role played different characters from our story and wrote detailed descriptions of our favourite characters.
In Maths, we have been learning to tell the time to o’clock and half past. We also used our skills of measurement and capacity to find the lengths of objects and prepare food and tea for our party. We have learnt all about money and have used this in our Tiger Cafe role play! Year 1 have also learnt all about the halves and quarters of shapes and objects and enjoyed halving tiger food with their friends.
Next half term we will be learning about Mulan and China. In this topic we will find out about Chinese New Year celebrations and the heroic story of Mulan.
This half term Year One have been learning about everything under the sea. We have been helping Nemo’s Dad, Marlin, find Nemo.
In Geography we have been learning about Australia. We located Australia on the map and used the Ipads to find out more information. We read lots of information about Australia and compared this to what our life is like in England.
In English we have read information about sharks and written our own shark fact files. Did you know that sharks babies are called pups? We have also been on a trip to Tropical World in Leeds where we have found out about lots of different animals which live in Australia. We have written a recount of this to tell people about our fantastic time!
In maths we have been learning about time. We can now read the time to o’clock and half past and even draw the hands on the clock. We have also been learning about 2D and 3D shapes. We can recognise them in the classroom and talk about their properties.
Next half term we will be going on a trip to the seaside. We will reading the story of the snail and the whale and finding out about their adventures in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. We will also be taking part in lots of fun summer events including the summer fayre and sports day.
This half term we have been learning the Three Little Pigs. We have been working together to stop the Big Bad Wolf from demolishing the Three Little Pig’s houses. We even made our own houses for the wolf to try and blow down. Did you know that bricks is the strongest material?
In Maths, we have been using our halving and quarter skills to share things between the pigs and the wolves. Using the IPad we have described position and movement. We helped the second little pig to count his sticks using our adding and taken away skills.
In English, we have been reading and retelling the story of the Three Little Pigs. We then innovated the story by changing characters and events. We have also been finding out facts about wolves to write our own fact files. In History, we have found out what houses were like in the past and what things have changed.
Next half term our topic will be ‘The Seaside.’ We will be using our retrieval skills to find out what life is like in Australia and learning about deadly sharks. In science we will be learning about plants and seasonal changes. We will also be going on a trip to Tropical World to find out what it is like in tropical climates.
This half term we have been learning about China. We had a fantastic day celebrating Chinese New Year. We all came dressed in red as it is said to bring us good luck! We used our painting and design technology skills to make a Chinese drum and played some traditional Chinese music with them. We also made a fan and a blowing dragon. We even got to eat some Chinese food with chopsticks!
Mu-Shu the dragon has been helping us with our English work. We found out about a Chinese school day. Did you know that they sing the national anthem every day? We then compared this with what our day is like. We also read the Chinese tradition tale ‘Mulan’. We used this to retell the story and changed the ending.
In Maths, we having been using time to tell us about the Chinese school day. We used capacity to make some lucky red potions. We also used our repeated addition and division skills to find out how many gold coins were in the bag.
Next half term our topic will be ‘The Three Little Pigs.’ We will be getting a visit from the Big Bad Wolf and helping the 3 Little Pigs to stop him. We will also be learning about what houses were like in the past and how things have changed.
This half term our topic has been ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea.’ We invited our family and teachers to take part in our tiger tea party. We raised over £30 which has been given to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). For the party, we made some delicious food and compared which was a healthy snack and which foods were unhealthy. The children also decorated the school hall by painting and drawing pictures of tigers.
In English, we retold the story of The Tiger Who Came to Tea and used it to help write our own tales about when other animals came to Sophie’s house. We had to find out about tigers by reading facts and then we wrote some fantastic descriptions about tigers. Did you know that tigers are carnivores? We have been writing letters to the WWF to tell them what we have been doing and writing some super recounts about our party.
In Maths, we used capacity and weighing to make food for our party. We had to very carefully weigh 50g of icing sugar and 50ml of water to make our party food. We also found out about different coins and their value so that we could find out how much we had raised. By using division correctly we were able to share buttons onto biscuits.
Next half term we will be learning about China. In this topic we will find out about Chinese New Year and celebrate it ourselves. We will also read and retell the story of Mulan.
In Year One we have had lots of fun learning about Superheroes! First we learnt about different Superheroes and invented our own. Next we used our measuring and D and T skills to create our own Superhero cape. After that we used our Geography skills to make a map for the police and stop Clumsy Clara from stealing things. Then we found out about Andy Warhol and made our own Andy Warhol style pictures for Cartwright Hall. Finally we went to the Police Station to hand in our evidence and got Clumsy Clara arrested.
This half term our topic will be The Tiger Who Came to Tea. We will be deciding if Sophie should let a tiger into her house and then retelling and inventing their own version of the story. We will be reading information about tigers and making a tiger fact file. We will then be preparing for our Tiger Tea Party which will raise money to sponsor a tiger. To do this, we will be preparing food and learning about money.
Last half term the children were working hard to raise the money to sponsor a polar bear! First we read lots of information about polar bears and wrote a polar bear fact file. Did you know that polar bears are white so they can camouflage into the snow? Next we planned a bake sale by writing letters, sending invitations and making posters. After that we used our measuring skills to make biscuits to sell. Finally we used the things we had learnt about money to sell to our families.
This half term our topic is fairy tales. We have been getting visits from the naughty Big Bad Wolf. We are going to be retelling the story of the 3 Little Pigs and then innovating it to make our own fairy tale. We are then going to be using our Geography skills to decide where in the UK the pigs should move to.
