In reception we have had an amazing term. In the first week we found “Magic Beans” in our garden. They were all sparkly and glittery. The children were all excited and wondered where the “Magic Beans” had come from. Some children thought a dinosaur had left them there, and some children thought Jack from “Jack and the Beanstalk” had left them there.
We finally found out that they had been left there by the Jack. We planted our own beanstalks, they grew very tall. We also made magic bean soup it was scrumptious. The children labelled an egg. We then had a vote to see how we would like to eat our “Golden” eggs. We made scrambled eggs, the children and staff thought they were delicious.
In numeracy we used the magic beans to talk about more and less, we also measured beanstalks. We had to see which was the tallest and which was the smallest.
In Literacy we made a poster. The golden goose had gone missing. We described the golden goose and hoped that someone would find it.
Finally we celebrated the Chinese New Year. We made Chinese lanterns. The children were very careful when they were cutting along the straight lines. The children and staff also tasted some Chinese noodles, they were delicious!
Next term we will be reading the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We will be going on a teddy bears picnic. Jack sent Goldilocks a Valentines card, so there might be wedding bells! We are looking forward to all the exciting things that we will be doing next term.
In Reception we have had so much fun learning the story “Aliens Love Underpants”.
The children discovered a space ship. It had CRASH! landed in our garden! We discovered that two aliens had come from space. They were called Flex and Astro! We asked the aliens questions and we wrote letters to them. The aliens asked the children what they liked to eat and the children wrote messages back to the aliens to tell them. After that, the pupils retold and innovated the story of Aliens Love Underpants. What clever children we have in Reception!
In numeracy we have been learning one more and one less. We named and described 2D shapes. We also counted out of a set. The children are getting good at learning their numbers and shapes!
The children learnt new Christmas songs. They did a fantastic performance in the hall and lots of parents and carers came to watch them. We wrote a letter to Santa and posted it at the post office. He came to visit reception and gave out presents and chocolate coins.
All the staff really appreciate that parents and carers are reading at home with their children. We have got some amazing readers in our classes. We thank you for your continued support.
Next half term we are reading and learning the story “Jack and the Beanstalk” We will be making magic bean soup! We will have lots of new activities and games to play.
In Reception we have had lots of fun learning the story of ‘The Gingerbread Man’! First we learnt and retold the story using props. Next we planned how to stay safe on a trip and wrote a list of rules to help us remember. This was all in preparation for our exciting trip to Freshco! At Freshco we bought some ingredients and used the ingredients and our baking skills to bake some delicious gingerbread men. Then we innovated the story. What does ‘innovate’ mean I heard you say? Innovate means to change something. We innovated a character and the setting in the story. Unfortunately after that, the Gingerbread Man went missing from Reception! We searched everywhere but could not find him so we created posters to put up in school. Then Miss Mirza and Miss Rockall spotted a bushy tail in the playground and a box left behind. Inside the box was….the Gingerbread Man! He had returned. Hooray! Finally, we had a party to celebrate! We had so much fun!
This half term our topic will be Space. We will be learning the story ‘Aliens Love Underpants’ and will retell and innovate the story. We will be reading information about space and writing facts. After that we may also get to Skype an alien! We will also be visiting the Post Office to send some letters. We are really looking forward to all the exciting things this half term has to bring!
In reception we had an exciting start to the term. We found “Magic Beans” in our garden. The children and staff were so excited to find the magic beans. We all wondered where the beans had come from.
The children predicated that the beans had come from the giant’s castle from the story, Jack and the Beanstalk.
The children made magic bean soup it was delicious. Then we followed instructions on how to make beans on toast. We also grew our own beanstalks
Finally we went to Lister Park with Jack to rescue Goldilocks from the giant. What an exciting half term we have had.
Next half term we are going to read Goldilocks and the Three Bears. In our classroom we have a fairy tale forest where we can read stories and also a fish monger’s role play area.
The dental nurses will be prompting good tooth brushing skills. We will be brushing our teeth every day.
