We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to our ‘Outstanding’ Nursery (Ofsted 2016). We currently offer free Nursery places to children aged three and four, with a choice of a morning or afternoon session. If you have different needs, please contact the school and we will be happy to discuss them.
If you are interested in a place or would like to arrange a visit, please contact the school office who will be happy to help.
Curriculum
In our nursery we promote inclusion and equality, ensuring all of our children have joyful and engaging learning experiences.
“Children in the early years enjoy a stimulating curriculum. They are curious learners. Staff make the most of the environment to develop pupils’ skills.” (Ofsted 2019)
Our curriculum is designed to provide opportunities for children to develop across all Areas of Learning. This includes Communication and Language, Physical Development, Personal Social and Emotional Development, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design.
Our Learning Environment
Children have access to a variety of learning areas indoor and outdoor, including sand, water, playdough, mark making, maths, role play, construction, small world, loose parts, awe and wonder, reading den, arts and crafts, sensory tray and a snack area.
The provision in our environment has been carefully selected enabling children to learn and practice the skills they need. Children use their senses to explore and learn through play, with peers and adults.
Outdoor learning is very important for children in the early years. We have a fantastic brand new outdoor learning environment which is used daily.
Parental Involvement
At Westbourne we work in partnership with parents to provide the best possible start for our children. We encourage parents to be involved with their children’s learning and invite parents into the classroom daily during drop off time to support them practice writing their name.
Throughout the year we host a range of events for parents and children in the classroom such as our nursery at night event and a number of ‘stay and plays’. Our children really enjoy having their parents in the setting!
Settling in
Starting nursery is a big step in a child’s life. It is also a big step for parents. Therefore prior to starting nursery you and your child will be invited to look around the setting and meet the teachers. This will allow your child to explore their new learning environment and you can ask any questions you may have.
