Peer education, mentoring and buddies
Introduction
At Westbourne Primary School, we strive to provide an enriched environment where children feel safe, valued and that they can succeed. As part of The Priestley Academy Trust, we ensure that the five core values: Respect, Responsibility, Excellence, Compassion and Collaboration are at the foundation of everything we do.
Through peer education, mentoring and buddy systems we develop children’s character by providing opportunities and enhance learning in:
- positive role modelling
- taking responsibility
- being caring
- feeling valued
- security
- relationships
- increasing self-esteem and confidence
At Westbourne, we pride ourselves on giving children the opportunities to take on responsibilities. In our school we have:
- Year 6 buddying Reception
- Target Time Helpers
- Year 5/6 Peer Mentors
- Sports Leaders and Playground Buddies
These systems help our school to be a sanctuary where children of all ages feel welcomed and valued.
