Reading Y1 and Y2

In Key Stage 1, adults listen to children read as often as possible, and our teachers record their progress as they read.  Children are taught to read and spell the 100 High Frequency Words before they leave Year 2.  We also have two reading lessons a week where teachers model key reading skills, through a shared read.

There is a 20 minute daily phonics session where children learn about how to read and write using their phonic knowledge.  They play lots of different phonic games which help them understand how sounds make words and we use words to make sentences.  We use the interactive whiteboard to play games and learn new phonemes and graphemes.  In Year 1 we know that some sounds can be written more than one way.
